It wasn't a game-winner. And he didn't even call bank.
But Michigan State's Matt McQuaid, a junior from Duncanville, hit one of the more acrobatic, and improbable, shots of the NCAA tournament to end the first half against Syracuse on Sunday afternoon.
McQuaid had tried to shoot a 3-pointer with two seconds left in the half but had it blocked. But as the Syracuse player fell out of bounds, McQuaid reached up for the ball and heaved a shot in mid-air just before the halftime buzzer. The shot was well left of the rim but banked off the backboard and through the net.
McQuaid, the District 8-6A MVP at Duncanville in 2015, has mostly played off the bench for the Spartans this year, averaging six points a game.
