Earlier this week we brought you the story of the Muenster Hornets, and their determination to win a third consecutive state championship -- basketball, followed by baseball, and now followed by football -- in honor of their late teammate, Cal York, who wore #3.
Well, the Hornets pulled it off. A 27-20 win over Tenaha in the 2A Division II Championship game capped off the magical year for Muenster -- but of course a bittersweet campaign as well.
York passed away in a car accident in May, just as the baseball team was closing in on their state title. York was a starter on the basketball team that won a title just months prior. And this fall, his close friends on the football team made sure the entire program would wear his #3 on the side of their helmets, remembering their friend.
Well, they have done so in spades. Three straight state championships, and not a single loss in baseball or football since York passed. And now they have their three titles for #3.
