'The Rock' surprises student who asked him to prom

Stillwater students were sitting at their desks for morning announcements when a familiar voice boomed over the intercom. "Good morning to the Stillwater Area High School students, this, as you might have guessed, is Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock ..."

STILLWATER, Minn. - Morning announcements are usually pretty humdrum, not the pinnacle of a high school student's day.

Friday proved the exception at Stillwater High School, however, thanks to a reader with SERIOUS star power.

Stillwater students were sitting at their desks for morning announcements when a familiar voice boomed over the intercom. "Good morning to the Stillwater Area High School students, this, as you might have guessed, is Dwayne Johnson, also known as 'The Rock' ..."

Students across the school freaked out, but none as much as senior Katie Kelzenberg. You see, Katie asked Johnson to her prom via Twitter last week, not necessarily expecting a response. But she got one Friday, a message that let her flush-faced and overwhelmed.

"Katie, I'm sure you are soooooo embarrassed right now, but I just had to let you know how cool and awesome you are for inviting me to your prom," he said.

Johnson thanked Katie for the invite, then explained he couldn't attend because he is shooting a movie in Hawaii. He then revealed another surprise, one that left Katie speechless with her hands covering her mouth.

"Because we are now best friends, and I have so much love for you because you're so awesome, I have a special gift. I've rented out a theater tomorrow, the gift is this, grab all your favorite friends and closest family members and whoever you want to bring, because tomorrow I'm showing you a screening of my new movie, 'Rampage' ... and all the popcorn and candy and soda you can drink, cause it's all on me."

After proclaiming himself an honorary Stillwater "Pony," Johnson urged some "chivalrous boy" to ask Katie to the prom in his absence ... then signed off with his usual panache.

"Stillwater Area High School, I am OUT!!"

Mr. Johnson also posted a message about Katie on his Instagram account.

SURPRISE KATIE KELZENBERG! About a week ago, I come across a video on my Twitter feed, from a student at Stillwater Area High School (oldest high school in Minnesota) asking me if I would be her date to her prom. Unfortunately, I’ll be shooting during that time in Hawaii, BUT I was so impressed by this young lady’s charm and confidence to even ask me (ladies always get shy in front of me) that I had to do something special. I decided to rent out an entire theater (capacity 232 seats) in her town so Katie and her closest 232 friends and family can enjoy a special screening of RAMPAGE. And all the free popcorn, candy and soda high school kids can consume! You’re money’s no good Katie... everything is on Uncle DJ. 🤙🏾🍿 🍭🥤!! And I also taped a special morning message surprising Katie and her high school that will play across the school’s intercom system... literally...RIGHT NOW, Katie should be turning red hearing me surprise her in front of her entire school. I wish I was there in person Katie, to see your reaction to all this, but I’ll hear about for sure and most importantly - you and all your friends have fun at the theater and ENJOY RAMPAGE! Thanks for being an AWESOME FAN and I’m a lucky dude to have fans like you. Uncle DJ 🤟🏾❤️ Ps - the gorilla in Rampage is way smarter (and better looking) than I am, but don’t tell him that because he has a HUGE ego 🦍
