Inside Texas Politics began with a debate between the two Democratic candidates vying to replace Republican Congressman Joe Barton in Congressional District 6. Jana Lynne Sanchez, a former journalist who also worked in corporate communications, faced off with long-time community activist and retired school counselor Ruby Faye Woolridge. The two women will compete in the upcoming May 22nd primary runoff. We’ve already covered the two Republicans seeking the District 6 seat. Congressional District 6 covers parts of Tarrant, Ellis and Navarro counties. Woolridge and Sanchez joined host Jason Whitely and Bud Kennedy with the Star-Telegram.

STATEWIDE

Senator Ted Cruz was in the news last week when he questioned Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Cruz accused Zuckerberg of censoring conservative content. However, this was not the topic that brought Zuckerberg to D.C. Alana Rocha, a reporter with the Texas Tribune, was in for Ross Ramsey. Alana discussed why Cruz strayed off the privacy topic with Facebook CEO. Alana also talked about whether the Republicans are drawing a line when the Party of Texas denied Log Cabin Republicans a booth at the state convention. She joined host Jason Whitely.

FLASHPOINT

The FBI raid on the office and home of President Trump’s personal attorney sparked this week’s Flashpoint. Republicans say the raid violates attorney-client privilege.

Democrats argue it was all done legally and was even signed off on by a Republican judge. From the right, Mark Davis of 660AM The Answer. And from the left, former Democratic State Rep. Domingo Garcia.

ROUNDTABLE

Reporters Roundtable puts the headlines in perspective each week. Bud and Alana returned along with Berna Dean Steptoe, WFAA’s political producer.

They discussed the speaker races in both the U.S. House and the Texas House, whether Texas still needs to spend $1 million a week keeping the DPS along the U.S.- Mexican border, and if Congressman Pete Session can persuade Governor Greg Abbott to allow toll lanes on LBJ East.
