McKINNEY -- A man who had just been sentenced to five years in prison fled from a Collin County courtroom Wednesday and injured himself when he jumped from the third floor railing to the first floor below.

According to News 8’s Jobin Panicker, Brandon Keith Fisher was appearing in Judge Mark Rusch’s court room on Thursday morning to enter a plea deal that would’ve sent him back to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for five years. Fisher’s probation for a 2009 aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge had been revoked over the summer.

Collin County Sheriff’s Capt. Jim Moody said Fisher ran out of the courtroom with a bailiff following close behind. The bailiff caught up and briefly wrestled with Fisher before he was able to escape. Fisher ran to the third floor railing and jumped over, and deputies who tried to stop him from falling were unsuccessful.

Fisher survived the fall and was conscious, according to attorney Pete Schulte. Capt. Moody said Fisher had undisclosed injuries, but was expected to survive.
