A woman was seriously injured when she was pinned between cars at the scene of a crash on the Dallas North Tollway early Friday morning.

Around 2:30 a.m., a suspected drunk driver in a BMW struck concrete barriers on both sides of the DNT before coming to rest, according to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Lonny Haschel.

The driver of the BMW fled the scene on foot but was later found and taken into custody. The female passenger got out of the car and stayed at the scene.

Haschel said a Good Samaritan in a minivan stopped at the scene to help. A driver in a northbound Toyota Camry, who apparently didn’t see the crash scene, struck the stopped BMW. The BMW was pushed into the minivan, pinning the woman between the two vehicles.

She was taken to a Plano hospital with “serious injuries,” Haschel said. The driver of the Toyota and the Good Samaritan were uninjured.

The toll road was closed for roughly an hour-and-a-half overnight but was reopened for the morning commute.

An investigation was ongoing.
