The first flu-related death has been reported in Dallas County. According to the Dallas County Health and Human Services, a 98-year-old Dallas resident died from complications of seasonal flu.

Nearly 100 people have been hospitalized this past week in Dallas County with flu-related illnesses.

“Influenza activity is on the rise in Dallas County with approximately 96 hospitalizations reported just this past week,” said Dr. Christopher Perkins, Dallas County medical director.

Health officials recommend the yearly flu vaccine for people over six months of age.

Basic flu avoidance tips include avoiding contact with people who appear ill, staying at home when flu symptoms appear and consistent hand washing.
