GRAND PRAIRIE -- Police are investigating a bizarre string of events that took place Friday morning, leaving one person dead in a house fire, a nail salon employee injured, and a man in jail.

Just before 10:30 a.m. Friday, officers were called to the nail salon in the 5100 block of Magna Carta Boulevard just north of Camp Wisdom and east of SH 360.

Officers were told that a man, identified as Bill Son Nguyen, 47, ran inside with a pistol and hit at least one female employee with the weapon. He also tried to set the salon on fire, police said.

A Good Samaritan with a concealed handgun license jumped in and held Nguyen at gunpoint until police arrived, GPPD said.

The suspect was arrested, while the female employee was taken to a trauma center. She's expected to be OK.

Meanwhile the Grand Prairie Fire Department was putting out flames at a home in the 2900 block of Hastings Drive, a few streets away from the nail salon.

They found one person dead inside the home, and fire officials have determined the home is connected to Nguyen.

The victim hasn't been identified, and police are labeling the homicide as family violence.

We'll update this story as new information comes in.
