DALLAS -- A burglary suspect was taken to a Dallas hospital early Wednesday morning after she was shot by a police officer.

A 911 call came in just before 5 a.m. from the suspect herself, who told police she had broken into the Golden Chick restaurant on Northwest Highway, just north of Love Field Airport.

Deputy Chief Thomas Castro says officers arrived and found the suspect on the scene with a knife. They told her to drop her weapon, but she refused. Officers then used a Taser on the suspect, but it was ineffective.

Castro says the suspect then approached the officers with her knife raised, and an officer shot her one time.

She was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital and her condition is unknown at this time.

No officers were injured.
