Police have identified two teenagers arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with the firing of a handgun outside Stevens Park Elementary School in Oak Cliff.
Arturo Villegas, 19, was arrested on charges of unlawfully carrying a weapon. His bail has been set at $15,000. Hector Lopez, 18, was arrested on an outstanding drug warrant. He was being held in lieu of a $2,500 bail.
A third person, who is 16, was arrested on assault charges, but his identity was not released because of his age.
All three remained in the Dallas County jail this morning.
According to police, a group of teenage boys were fighting about 3:45 p.m. in front of the school, on West Colorado Boulevard between Hampton and Westmoreland roads.
Frank Gonzales, 32, saw one of the teens pull out a handgun and fire a round into the air. He tackled the boy, knocking the gun loose. A juvenile then began assaulting him, police said. Gonzales was not seriously injured.
Police caught up with the juvenile, Villegas and Lopez about 5 p.m. when they spotted a car matching a description given by Gonzales.
