2017 Greater Dallas Veterans Parade

  • Friday, November 10, 2017: 11 a.m.

  • Military vehicles and equipment, veterans organizations, civic and corporate displays will be available for viewing at 9:30 a.m. in front of the Dallas City Hall

  • The theme for this year’s parade is "Honoring Veterans of the Gulf War: Desert Shield & Desert Storm"

University of Dallas Veterans Day Ceremony

  • Friday, November 10, 2017: 11 a.m.

  • Join the University of Dallas as they honor those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom

  • Featured speakers include retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. LaShawnda Boykin, and U.S. Army Lieutenant Col. Bob Hannah.

  • The theme for this year’s parade is “Honoring Our Veterans & Their Canine Buddies”

Flags of Honor

  • Friday, November 10, 2017: Marine birthday celebration, 4:15 p.m.

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: Veteran’s Day celebration, 4:15 p.m.

  • Sunday, November 12, 2017: Memorial celebration, 4:15 p.m.

  • Join the Plano East Rotary Club in presenting the Flags of Honor – 1,000 flags honoring those who serve

  • Each flag will bear a customized memorial with the name and picture of the honoree, along with their branch of service and dates of service

Sheed Persian Film Festival

  • Friday, November 10, 2017: 8 p.m.

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 11 a.m.

  • Sunday, November 12, 2017: 11 a.m.

  • This festival is back in Dallas for its second annual presentation, and it aims to promote Iranian art and culture in the international community

‘Old School vs. New School’ Step Show

  • Friday, November 10, 2017: 7 p.m. / Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

  • This show will feature alumni groups and youth groups competing to see who steps the best

  • Tickets are available here starting at $10*

Chief Floyd Simpson Blue & Brave 5K

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017

  • The Dallas Police Department is inviting runners of all levels to join them in honoring a fallen hero while supporting local Special Olympics Texas athletes

  • This event will take place at Lake Cliff Park in Dallas (300 E. Colorado Boulevard)

  • The cost to run is $30 per person before race day; the day of event fee will be $40 per runner

  • All participants will receive a t-shirt with their entry fee

  • Race day check-in and registration opens at 7:00 a.m., followed by the Blue and Brave 5K at 8:30 a.m.

University of North Texas Homecoming

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017

  • There will be a 5K intramural run starting at 7:15 a.m.

  • The homecoming parade will take place at 11 a.m. around the Denton square

  • The homecoming game, against UTEP, will be at 4 p.m.

  • Tickets for the game start at $12

WordCamp DFW 2017

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 8 a.m.

  • Sunday, November 12, 2017: 9 a.m.

  • WordCamps feature talks about everything WordPress, a free and open-source personal publishing software

  • Beginners and veteran users of WordPress are invited to attend to learn more and share ideas about topics ranging from web development to content creation, security, marketing, and more

  • Tickets are $40 per person*

Free Breakfast with Santa

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 8:30 a.m.

  • Food Court at The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano (6121 W. Park Boulevard)

  • Wake up with a holly, jolly complimentary breakfast from Chick-fil-A with Santa for children 14 years old and younger

  • Kids can enjoy having their face painted, watch a balloon artist, make holiday crafts and visit with costumed characters

Veterans Appreciation Event

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 9 a.m.

  • Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, along with Desoto Mayor Curtistene McCowan, invite you to join them as they unveil a military monument in honor of Veterans Day

  • This event will be held at Historic Nance Farm in DeSoto (1325 Greenbrook Drive)

Holiday Open House

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.*

  • Sunday, November 12, 2017: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.*

  • Different businesses throughout downtown Denton will be presenting holiday specials, merchandise, and services to get the season started a little early

  • More than 40 stores and restaurants in Downtown Denton are participating in this event

Kitten Yoga

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

  • This event is a fun and relaxing experience for both two- and four-legged participants

  • There will be 10 adoptable kittens who will wander around the room throughout the class

Veterans Day Program at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • The Department of Veterans Affairs and Texas National Cemetery Foundation invite the public to attend a Veterans Day Ceremony at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery

  • Attendees are asked to please arrive early and bring a chair

  • Parking will be directed once on cemetery grounds

Let’s Talk About Gun Sense

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • This event will take place at Disciple Central Community Church in DeSoto (901 N. Polk Street #101)

  • This event will provide insights into key topics including: current gun-related federal and state legislation, the ways communities in Dallas County can improve safety immediately (including addressing domestic violence, non-legislative solutions such as safe gun storage, and the intersection of mental health and gun violence)

  • This panel features State Senator Royce West, Civil District Court Judge Tonya Parker, former Criminal District Judge John Creuzot, and Amanda M. Johnson, a gun violence survivor and activist leader with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a national advocacy group

Take Back Oak Lawn

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • This neighborhood cleanup will focus on The Strip and surrounding areas in Oak Lawn that are showing signs of trash and litter buildup

  • Volunteers are asked to meet at 4026 Cedar Springs Road

Veterans Day at Amon Carter

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 11 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

  • In honor of Veterans Day, the public is invited to a color guard presentation by a Fort Worth ISD ROTC on the Amon Carter's front steps

  • A special museum tour of military-related artworks follows the presentation

Veterans Day at F.A.R.M.

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Carry The Load invites the public to celebrate Veterans Day with those who served and military families at F.A.R.M. Urban Park in Dallas (700 South Good Latimer Expressway)

  • This event will include live music, Ruthie's Rolling Cafe, fun activities for kids and a tremendous showing of support for our veteran community

  • Attendees can also participate in a Heroes Challenge that tests their physical strength and endurance

Pupsgiving

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Four-legged friends deserve to celebrate the holidays too, so join local dog lovers at Uptown's premier dog park as Mutts hosts Pupsgiving at Mutts Canine Cantina in Dallas (2889 Cityplace W. Boulevard)

  • Epic Animal Rescue will also be onsite throughout the event with a variety of furry friends available for adoption

  • Dog Moms of Dallas will be joining in on the fun by hosting a Thanksgiving-themed costume contest, categories include:

    • Best Overall Costume

    • Most Creative Costume

Mesquite Veterans Memorial Picnic in the Park

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017: 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  • This community-side effort aims to build a new Veterans Memorial in Mesquite

  • A free picnic dinner will be provided by the Mesquite Fire Corps

  • This event will also feature a concert by the Dallas Heritage Band, dressed in authentic military uniforms

Santa’s Wonderland

  • Saturday, November 11, 2017 through Sunday, December 24, 2017

  • Santa will arrive at 5 p.m. local time when customers can greet St. Nick, enjoy free cookies, hot chocolate and carols

  • This free event welcomes families back to the massive Christmas village transformation inside Bass Pro Shops, featuring free photos with Santa and free family holiday activities including crafts, games and holiday magic for the whole family

  • Children are invited to help Santa light the store's exterior and Christmas tree at participating locations
